How to Make a Stone & Pewter Paperweight

You likely have a beautiful slab that you have always wanted to display but didn’t know how to go about it.  Here is how to do it.

First, pick out your slab.  Preferably it should be less than 1/4” (0.6 cm) in thickness.  The slab ideally would be less than 5” (12.5 cm) high.

For the base, use a thick slab, approximately ½” – ¾” (1.4 cm – 2 cm) thick.  The base does not have to be large, but large enough to supply enough weight so it will not tip over.

Using sandpaper or better yet, a diamond tool (an old diamond drill bit or bur if possible), rough up the surfaces on the thin slab and the pewter connector.  Then use a fast drying glue such as "Super T", or an epoxy, to glue them together. Put the glue onto the connector first then attach to the slab (see the picture). 

When this is dry, stand up the thin slab and connector and then locate where you want it to attach to the base. Rough the two surfaces to be glued, then apply the glue. Use a piece of tape to hold the connector to the thick base (see the picture).

Let it dry and then “voila”, it is finished!
